The 4Cs of Diamonds
Every diamond is unique. To help consumers understand and compare diamonds, the industry uses a universal grading system known as the 4Cs: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight.
Cut
Cut refers to how well a diamond's facets interact with light. A well-cut diamond reflects light beautifully, creating exceptional brilliance, fire, and sparkle. Cut is often considered the most important of the 4Cs because it has the greatest impact on a diamond's appearance.
Color
Diamond color is graded on a scale from D to Z. Diamonds closer to D are considered colorless and are generally more valuable, while diamonds further down the scale may display slight yellow or brown tones.
Clarity
Clarity measures the presence of natural characteristics called inclusions and blemishes. Most are invisible to the naked eye. Higher clarity grades indicate fewer imperfections.
Carat Weight
Carat refers to a diamond's weight, not its size. Larger diamonds are generally rarer, but beauty and value are determined by the combination of all 4Cs, not carat weight alone.
Finding the Right Balance
The perfect diamond is not always the largest or highest grade. The best choice is one that balances beauty, quality, and budget according to your personal preferences.
